UCB Lecturer 'App'-lies Herself with NEW Wine Find App

Creativity abounds in hospitality programmes and goes far beyond the design of a hotel or a menu. At University College Birmingham, Food Service lecturer Amy Hollier has funneled her creativity into the development of an exciting - and rather fun - new App.? Working with Midlands company Smartphone Media, Amy has created 'Wine Find'. Focused on food and drink pairing, Wine Find can be used by anyone as a 'lifestyle accessory' but also it can be used as a revision and training tool for hospitality students and industry professionals. How cool is that?!

The App offers the following:

  • useful key facts about different types of old world and new world wines;
  • a host of tips and suggestions on what wines go best with every day foods and classical dishes;
  • a Flavour Wheel highlighting tastes and aromas as a way for identifying wines;
  • a Label Library for storing photos of favourite wines;
  • opportunities to share notes with friends via social media networks; and?
  • Wine of the Week recommendations.

That's not all! Budding wine connoisseurs can try out the "Test your Knowledge" quiz and, if you're stumped, try the "Ask the Expert" tab for answers to your questions.

Professor Ray Linforth, Principal, University College Birmingham acknowledged that, besides being a fun App, "Wine Find will be a very useful educational teaching tool to help hospitality students improve their knowledge and ultimately enhance their confidence when advising diners and creating menus."

The App costs .69p and is available to buy in the iTunes App store. It will also shortly be available on Android devices. To see Amy Hollier introduce the new App, visit this film clip.
