Obama: U.S. has good leads on who carried out Benghazi attacks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has some "very good leads" about who carried out the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans including the U.S. ambassador in September, President Barack Obama said in an interview broadcast on Sunday.

Obama told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the United States would carry out all of the recommendations put forward in an independent review of the September 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens was killed.

"We're not going to pretend that this was not a problem. This was a huge problem. And we're going to implement every single recommendation that's been put forward," Obama said in the interview, referring to security issues identified in the review.

"With respect to who carried it out, that's an ongoing investigation. The FBI has sent individuals to Libya repeatedly. We have some very good leads, but this is not something that I'm going to be at liberty to talk about right now," he said.

The interview was conducted on Saturday.

Budget struggle raising anxiety for health care

(AP) ? Confused about the federal budget struggle? So are doctors, hospital administrators and other medical professionals who serve the 100 million Americans covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

Rarely has the government sent so many conflicting signals in so short a time about the bottom line for the health care industry.

Cuts are coming, says Washington, and some could be really big. Yet more government spending is also being promised as President Barack Obama's health care overhaul advances and millions of uninsured people move closer to getting government-subsidized coverage.

"Imagine a person being told they are going to get a raise, but their taxes are also going to go up and they are going to be paying more for gas," said Thornton Kirby, president of the South Carolina Hospital Association. "They don't know if they are going to be taking home more or less. That's the uncertainty when there are so many variables in play."

Real money is at stake for big hospitals and small medical practices alike. Government at all levels pays nearly half the nation's health care tab, with federal funds accounting for most of that.

It's widely assumed that a budget deal will mean cuts for Medicare service providers. But which ones? How much? And will Medicaid and subsidies to help people get coverage under the health care law also be cut?

As House Speaker John Boehner famously said: "God only knows." The Ohio Republican was referring to the overall chances of getting a budget deal, but the same can be said of how health care ? one-sixth of the economy ? will fare.

"There is no political consensus to do anything significant," said Dan Mendelson, president of Avalere Health, a market analysis firm. "There is a collective walking away from things that matter. All the stuff on the lists of options becomes impossible, because there is no give-and-take."

As if things weren't complicated enough, doctors keep facing their own recurring fiscal cliff, separate from the bigger budget battle but embroiled in it nonetheless.

Come Jan. 1, doctors and certain other medical professionals face a 26.5 percent cut in their Medicare payments, the consequence of a 1990s deficit-reduction law gone awry. Lawmakers failed to repeal or replace that law even after it became obvious that it wasn't working. Instead, Congress usually passes a "doc fix" each year to waive the cuts.

This year, the fix got hung up in larger budget politics. Although a reprieve is expected sooner or later, doctors don't like being told to sit in the congressional waiting room.

"It seems like there is a presumption that physicians and patients can basically tolerate this kind of uncertainty while the Congress goes through whatever political machinations they are going through," said Dr. Jeremy Lazarus, president of the American Medical Association. "Our concern is that physician uncertainty and anxiety about being able to pay the bills will have an impact on taking care of patients."

A recent government survey indicates that Medicare beneficiaries are having more problems when trying to find a new primary care doctor, and Lazarus said that will only get worse.

Adding to their unease, doctors also face an additional reduction if automatic spending cuts go through. Those would be triggered if Obama and congressional leaders are unable to bridge partisan differences and strike a deal. They are part of the combination of tax increases and spending cuts dubbed the "fiscal cliff."

Medicare service providers would get hit with a 2 percent across-the-board cut, but Medicaid and subsidies for the uninsured under Obama's health care overhaul would be spared. The Medicare cut adds up to about $120 billion over ten years, with 40 percent falling on hospitals, according to Avalare's analysis. Nursing homes, Medicare Advantage plans and home health agencies also get hit.

The American Hospital Association says that would lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of hospital jobs in a labor intensive industry that also generates employment for other businesses in local communities.

"It's very difficult to believe hospitals can absorb the kinds of numbers they are talking about without reducing service or workforce," said Kirby, the hospital association head. "You may decide that a service a hospital provides is not affordable ? for example, obstetrics in a rural community ? if you're making a little bit of money or losing a little bit of money by continuing to deliver babies in a rural community."

Independent analysts like Mendelson doubt that a 2 percent Medicare cut to hospitals would be catastrophic, but say it will cost jobs somewhere.

Even if there is a budget deal, the squeeze will be on.

The administration has proposed $400 billion in health care cuts so far in the budget talks, coming mainly from Medicare spending. That's only a starting point as far as Republicans are concerned. They also want to pare back Medicaid and Obama's health care law, and have also sought an increase in the eligibility age for Medicare.

Shops & Businesses
These are the places that people usually go to do their shopping or have fun.

General Shopping
There is one or two in each two supermarkets, depending how big the town is, and only one type owned by the same person, called AFFU. It is usually about two storeys high, with every single food you could have in there, with a small clothes section, and other items e.g. magazines. However, even though there is almost any variety of grocery you can buy here, because there is little of them in a city, there are also many small shops that may specialize in one type of food, e.g. bakery, butchers etc. Newsagents are also quite popular, but usually contain more magazines than newspapers, as all news shout outs are broadcasted on the television.

Clothes
There are a few main clothes stores. The first one is YOUNG 5EVER, which sells expensive clothes, but is very popular, as it is a 'brand name.' The second one is FOURYU, which, though the clothes are not as good quality and it is not a 'brand name,' is much cheaper than Young 5Ever. SIMPLY is another store, but this would be regarded as the 'Hipster Store' as it would be called, because that is the type of clothes it sells. The last store is CEES&MON, this is a complete variety of clothes with all age groups in mind.

Food & Eating Out.
Mercury is like today's 'McDonalds,' and is the biggest fast food chain ever, though there are a few others. There is a small caf? called Sharlene's, and a very expensive restaurant named 'An Bia Go Halainn.' Also, in the apartment block is a small restaurant known simply as 'The Place To Eat.'

Entertainment
There is a cinema with an attached bowling alley and soft play area for younger children. there are two night clubs, the 18+ one called Club Kiss, and the 13 - 18 one called Club Lights. Club Kiss has an attached arcade and casino.

There is a swimming pool, with an upstairs for gym and a separate room for Jacuzzi and spa treatment. There are two libraries and a toy store named Toys4U. The pub/bar is called Wesleys Lounge with Karaoke on Fridays and live music on Saturdays.

-- Most stores are a lot like your average ones today, though perhaps a bit more modern and extravagant.

The 25 Best (and Funniest) Twitter Accounts for Bros to Follow in 2013

The 25 Best (and Funniest) Twitter Accounts for Bros to Follow in 2013

Face it: Your Twitter feed needs an upgrade. You might be only following kids you barely know from high school and college, or the same ESPN'ers regurgitating trade rumors you already see every day, or a stale "comedy" account RT'ing jokes everyone on the Internet has already heard, whatever... Bottom line: It will be useful to be exposed to new people, new information, and new dick jokes in the coming year.

We've culled our feeds to come up with 25 suggested accounts for you to follow in 2013. They're not ranked in order of importance, although No. 1 is arguably in the correct spot. Is this a definitive list? Of course not. If you know of any other quality accounts?save your own, you self-promoting bastards?leave 'em in the comments.

25. Jimmy Traina

The man who runs Sports Illustrated's Hot Clicks is a one-man machine of delivering news we enjoy seeing, from a funny take on sports (that doesn't ignore its gambling side), to, of course, quality pics of SI's swimsuit models. Also, he may be the world's biggest Howard Stern fan?if you abide by the Tao of Baba Booey, you'll have a definite kinship.

24. Chrissy Teigen

The funniest model on the planet and, it should go without saying, one of the hottest, Chrissy candidly gives her followers a look into her strange life while also writing things that make you spit up your coffee. She sometimes makes fun of her fiancee (who is somewhat famous in his own right), too, which is an added bonus.

23. Dean Norris

Norris edges out other Breaking Bad'er and prominent Tweeter Aaron Paul because, well, he's funnier. Hank Schrader just joined Twitter, but he's already poked fun at creator Vince Gilligan, shared exclusive photos from the set (where the final season is being filmed), and, of course, delivered what may be the best Tweet in the history of the social media service.

22. Humblebrag

The gold standard of how to profit off Twitter, comedian Harris Wittels parlayed a popular Twitter account that RTed douchebrags (hey, new word) boasting about their accomplishments under the guise of false modesty into a column on Grantland and a book deal (at the age of 27). Humblebrag has been around for a while, but it's still fun to laugh at the idiots the account features.

Bonus public shaming accounts: Follow @fart to be exposed to RTs of people asking questions that have plagued man for centuries, like "What are clouds?". And follow Neil Hamburger, who sometimes RTs people who complain about having food poisoning from Taco Bell. Yeah, I don't know either, but it works.

21. Mike Birbiglia

A modern master of the one-liner, Birbigs' comedy is perfectly suited for Twitter. Sometimes, though, self-deprecation gets to be a bit too much.

20. Michael Che

We've alerted you to Che before, but it's worth saying again: Keep an eye on this guy. He's one of the country's top up-and-coming comedians, and you're going to want to one day say you knew him before he hit it big. As for his Twitter account... For what it lacks in proper grammar, it makes up in hilarious observations on race and politics and living in the big city. Give him a follow.

19. Rihanna

Look, I'll just cut to the chase. Rihanna tweets pictures of herself in some state of undress nearly every day. It's worth dealing with the nonsensical thoughts, pictures of Chris Brown, and highlighted Bible verses she'll sometimes weirdly post.

18. Goldman Sachs Elevator

At nearly 1,000 Tweets, it's more or less impossible that GS Elevator is running solely on overheard conversations in the Goldman Sachs elevator anymore, but for politically incorrect humor with a right-wing tinge, you can't beat it. Think of your wildly wealthy friend who you just can't hate because everything he says is too ridiculous.

17. Avicii's Flannel

Robb swears by this one, and I'm not totally sure if it's just a clever parody account of house maven Avicii's ubiquitous flannel shirts, or a really, really clever account making fun of both parody accounts and EDM as a whole. ("Let's make love and listen to old disco records," has me leaning toward thinking it is trolling.) Anyway, it's a solid excuse laugh again at the absurdity that is the Avicii-Ralph Lauren partnership.

16. The Fat Jew

Wildly offensive and undeniably hilarious, the Fat Jew doesn't just make videos of hookers reenacting scenes from Braveheart. He also runs a pants-wettingly funny Twitter account. Be warned, though, guys in class/cubicle jockeys with a computer angled toward your boss: He'll throw a more-than-occasional NSFW link up.

6 (Legal) Ways to 'Fix' Your Financial Statements and Pay Less Tax

The sun is setting on 2012 and your books don?t look quite the way you?d like. Maybe you have too much profit ? maybe not enough. You need financial statements that reflect reality, position you for?profits in the new year and perhaps even impress your banker or pay less tax. But how?

Fortunately, accounting rules allow flexibility: It may seem like walking a thin line but there are plenty of ways you can change your financial reporting to produce ?better looking? ? and truly more meaningful ? financial statements without ever straying into legal or ethical problems.

Let?s take a look at six situations when we have legitimate choices that significantly change our financial statements.

1.?Capitalizing Expenses

The most common way to increase a company?s apparent profitability is to shift expenses off of the P&L and onto the balance sheet. When a business makes a large purchase, it could decide the cost should be ?capitalized? ? meaning to create an asset rather than an expense. This spreads the cost across many periods (as depreciation) and increases short term profits.

There are times when capitalizing an expense is not only correct, but required.? Some costs, like leasehold improvements (building new walls in a rented office, for example), are correctly classified as an asset.? Other times, the rules are not so clear. A new phone system is clearly an asset, but how about the cost to install it and to train the staff??If the training is listed as ?free? on the contract, should we expense the value of training anyway?

The decision to capitalize expenses works both ways: increasing or decreasing expenses in one period, and increasing or decreasing assets and depreciation costs over the long term.?Capitalizing or expensing an item can be a strategic decision that impacts profits, taxes and other areas of business.

2. Time Shifting Income and Expenses

Accountants try to wrap up all the transactions in a single month or year and call that period ?closed?. But business transactions can?t be so neatly packaged. Sales and spending continue past the end of each month or year, so there is always a temptation to fudge the dates on some transactions and force them into prior or later periods.

There are some good, legitimate reasons to do this, including simply correcting quirks in the calendar.? A power bill for example, is a monthly expense.? If we do not receive the February power bill until March 1, that?s no reason to skip the expense in February.? Clearly, the February P&L should contain an expense for power, so adjusting the date on the bill is a reasonable and legitimate use of this technique.

For internal reporting ? that is, when financial statements are prepared for management and not used for tax or other external purposes ? time shifting can be an important way to smooth out revenue and expenses on periodic reports.? It can be difficult to manage a business when several large invoices land arbitrarily in one month, so assigning part or all of the expense to another month may help make sense of what is actually going on in the business.

3. Changing Reporting Periods

One month or year can show a loss, while the next shows an extreme profit.? That?s the nature of business.? In order to generate reports that show more consistency, managers may elect not to report on a strict calendar year but instead look at a more representative period, such as the last 12 months (sometimes called TTM ? trailing twelve months).? This is a respected way to characterize financial results, for example, in a fast-growing company, or toward the end of one period when the last period?s data would be out of date.

Some businesses have such variability in their monthly results that they skip monthly reports altogether and look only at quarterly results.? This makes it difficult to make real time decisions, but if the reporting is more accurate on a quarterly basis it could be a good move.

4. Revenue Recognition

Businesses with multi-month delivery cycles and big invoice values are expected ? even required ? ?to spread income out as it is earned, rather than showing it all in the month when an invoice was created. GAAP has some rules about this based on measuring the work actually completed during a period. Consult with a CFO or CPA about how to measure this!

5. Inventory Valuation

Inventory is one area where small changes in recording can have large impacts on the financial statements.? Old inventory can be ?written down? ? meaning it is devalued or discounted ? simply because it is old.? The thought is that last year?s models left in inventory are not worth as much as this year?s.? Writing down inventory is an accepted way to take an expense in the current period and adjust the cost of goods for future sales.

6. Inventory Expense Recognition

When a company sells a product from inventory, profit depends on how we calculate and recognize the cost of goods sold?(COGS).? Should we value it at the price we paid for the oldest part of it? Or the price we paid most recently for the newest pieces? Or at the price we will pay to replace it next week?

There are generally accepted rules for guiding this decision, and it is important to remain consistent.? Which method you choose ? and if you choose to change the method ? can have a substantial impact on profitability since it will shift the cost of goods.

Make the Data Useful

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for changing the way we record things on our books. The rules of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) provide enough flexibility to push and mold our financial statements into useful reports.

Note that I said ?useful reports?. ?I did not say tax or regulatory filings. If your business is submitting formal financial statements for legal or tax purposes, a thorough review from a knowledgeable CPA or tax attorney is always the right move.

In the meantime, remember that financial reports are meant to help you make better business decisions.? Financial statements that are knowingly false, twist reality beyond recognition, or are based on wants instead of facts, will not give you meaningful information.

Dedicated to your (Year End) profits, ?David

Snow buries parts of Northeast as storm sweeps in

More than 2,000 flights have been canceled, and more than 200,000 customers are without power in several southern states as the impact of severe winter weather was felt across the nation. NBC's Eric Fisher reports.

By Tracy Connor and Alastair Jamieson, NBC News

A winter storm?swept into the Northeast on Thursday, bringing up to 21 inches of snow, drenching rain ? and a new round of travel headaches.

By late afternoon, more than 1,000 flights had been canceled, and more than 8,000 were delayed, according to FlightStats.com,?frustrating thousands of stranded passengers.

At Philadelphia International Airport, assistant principal Tomorrow Jenkins was desperate to get to Orlando, Fla., where her high school?s band was slated to perform at a Rutgers University bowl game Friday.

Her flight had been delayed and canceled, and she missed a connection. ?I?m a little anxious,? she told NBCPhiladelphia.com at the airport, where dozens of flights were scrapped on Thursday.

Passengers on a Southwest Airlines jet bound for Florida from Long Island faced an unexpected wait after the Boeing 737 went off the runway and got stuck in the grass. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said officials were investigating if wet weather was a factor in the mishap, which caused no injuries.

An American Airlines flight that landed safely in Pittsburgh on?Wednesday night got stuck in snow for about two hours on the tarmac, The Associated Press reported.?

The Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, where all flights had been grounded until Wednesday afternoon after the storm passed, still had two dozen cancellations on the board.

It won't be a blockbuster snowfall, but most of the big cities in the Northeast will get one to three inches of snow. The Weather Channel's Chris Warren reports.

A passenger who had been stuck on a plane at the gate there for three hours on Christmas night recorded an American Airlines pilot apologizing for the situation.

?I've made more personal phone calls than I know what to do with,? the pilot said in an audio recording obtained by WFAA-TV.

?I've spent my last quarter, to be honest with you. It's beyond reproach. I have no words to tell you... to tell you how sorry I am. This is way above our heads... by people that obviously, in my humble opinion, don't have a clue what they're doing,? said the pilot.

The airline said in a statement that it "was obviously a very challenging day" and apologized for any inconvenience.

The weather system, which developed just before Christmas, has already spawned twisters, high winds, icy roads, and record snowfall in the nation?s midsection, where it was blamed for a dozen deaths.

The Weather Channel's Eric Fisher reports from Lewiston, Maine, where snow is rapidly accumulating. The winter storm, which traveled from Texas up through the Midwest, is threatening to dump up to 2 feet of snow on parts of the Northeast.

On Thursday, it blanketed towns from Pennsylvania to Maine in white.

Woodford, Vt., got socked with 21 inches of snow -- the highest total of the storm so far. In Edwards, N.Y., 16 inches fell. Coudersport, Pa., saw 15 inches; Windsor, Mass., got 13.4 inches; and Lebanon, Maine, had a foot, the National Weather Service reported.

Where there wasn?t snow, there was rain.?In New Jersey, flooding and high winds forced the closure of parts of Brick Township, local officials told the Weather Channel's Mike Seidel.

Thursday brought mostly rain to New York City, Philadelphia and Boston, but that could change this weekend. The Weather Channel?s Tom Niziol said a new system could dump up to four inches of snow on the major Northeast cities.

The Weather Channel's?Michael Palmer and?The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On one of the busiest travel days of the year, bad weather has forced airlines to cancel or delay flights. NBC's Katy Tur reports.

NY firemen's killer mapped out plan for slayings

WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) ? The ex-con turned sniper who killed two firefighters wanted to make sure his goodbye note was legible, typing out his desire to "do what I like doing best, killing people" before setting the house where he lived with his sister ablaze, police say.

Police Chief Gerald Pickering said Tuesday that the 62-year-old loner, William Spengler, brought plenty of ammunition with him for three weapons including a military-style assault rifle as he set out on a quest to burn down his neighborhood just before sunrise on Christmas Eve.

And when firefighters arrived to stop him, he unleashed a torrent of bullets, shattering the windshield of the fire truck that volunteer firefighter and police Lt. Michael Chiapperini, 43, drove to the scene. Fellow firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka, 19, who worked as a 911 dispatcher, was killed as well.

Two other firefighters were struck by bullets, one in the pelvis and the other in the chest and knee. They remained hospitalized in stable condition and were expected to survive.

On Tuesday, investigators found a body in the Spengler home, presumably that of the sister a neighbor said Spengler hated: 67-year-old Cheryl Spengler. Spengler's penchant for death had surfaced before. He served 17 years in prison for manslaughter in the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother.

But his intent was unmistakable when he left his flaming home carrying a pump-action shotgun, a .38-caliber revolver and a .223-caliber semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle with flash suppression, the same make and caliber weapon used in the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., that killed 26.

"He was equipped to go to war, kill innocent people," the chief said of a felon who wasn't allowed to possess weapons because of his criminal past. It was not clear how he got them.

The assault rifle was believed to be the weapon that struck down the firefighters. He then killed himself as seven houses burned on a sliver of land along Lake Ontario. His body was not found on a nearby beach until hours afterwards.

The motive was left unclear as well, Pickering said, even as authorities began analyzing a two- to three-page typewritten rambling note Spengler left behind.

He declined to reveal the note's full content or say where it was found. He read only one chilling line: "I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people."

Pickering added: "There was some rambling in there and some intelligence we need to follow up on."

It remained unknown what set Spengler off but a next-door neighbor, Roger Vercruysse, noted that he loved his mother, Arline, who died in October after living in the house in a neighborhood of seasonal and year-round homes across the road from a lakeshore popular with recreational boaters.

Pickering said it was unclear whether the person believed to be Spengler's sister died before or during the fire.

"It was a raging inferno in there," Pickering said.

As Pickering described it and as emergency radio communications on the scene showed, the heavily armed Spengler took a position behind a small hill by the house as four firefighters arrived after 5:30 a.m. to extinguish the fire: two on a fire truck; two in their own vehicles.

Several firefighters went beneath the truck to shield themselves as an off-duty police officer who came to the scene pulled his vehicle alongside the truck to try to shield them, authorities said.

The first police officer who arrived chased and exchanged shots with Spengler, recounting it later over his police radio.

"I could see the muzzle blasts comin' at me. ... I fired four shots at him. I thought he went down," the officer said.

At another point, he said: "I don't know if I hit him or not. He's by a tree. ... He was movin' eastbound on the berm when I was firing shots." Pickering portrayed the officer as a hero who saved many lives.

The audio posted on the website RadioReference.com also has someone reporting "firefighters are down" and saying "got to be rifle or shotgun ? high-powered ... semi or fully auto."

Spengler had been charged with murder in his grandmother's death but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter, apparently to spare his family a trial. After he was freed from prison, Spengler had lived a quiet life on Lake Road on a narrow peninsula where Irondequoit Bay meets Lake Ontario.

That ended when he left his burning home Monday morning, armed with his weapons, a lot of ammunition and a measure of hate.

"I'm not sure we'll ever know what was going through his mind," Pickering said.

Considering Personal Bankruptcy? Read On For Useful Information ...

If your financial situation is real bad and you?re looking at bankruptcy, then stop worrying. There are countless resources available online to help you avoid the ruins of going through a bankruptcy. The advice in this article may help you avoid bankruptcy.

Don?t try to hide anything if you are filing for bankruptcy, as this will hurt you in the long run. All of your financial information, be it positive or negative, must be disclosed to those in charge of filing your case. They need to know it all. Keeping secrets or trying to outsmart everyone is not a wise move.

As bankruptcy begins to appear more likely, it is likely that you will have already spoken with at least some of your existing creditors. Some creditors are willing to accept a percentage of the total owed, or to suspend interest and penalty fees. Make sure that you get written documentation of any offer they make. Offers of flexibility received from your creditors can greatly affect your bankruptcy case, but they must be in written form.

Divorce can unexpectedly leave people in financial ruins. When many people divorce, they have to pursue a bankruptcy when the realities of the costs comes to light. It is always wise to think twice about divorcing.

Chapter 7 filings do not necessarily erase all of your debt. Some secured debts might have to be reaffirmed. This means that you may need to create a new agreement in planning to repay them and some debts are not dischargeable at all. For instance, you could not discharge child support obligations, court-sanctioned fines or even alimony payments through chapter 7.

You don?t necessarily need to have all of your debts released when you file for personal bankruptcy. Although Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the most well known, there is another type of bankruptcy, called Chapter 13, that allows you to set up a payment plan to pay credits part of your outstanding debt. Many people don?t like to file for bankruptcy, because it seems as if they aren?t paying for their debts which is irresponsible. Chapter 13 is a good alternative, as it helps credits recover some of their money while letting you escape from your crushing debt load.

Don?t put off filing for bankruptcy until you are in dire straits. Although it may be very difficult to admit that bankruptcy is the answer for you, it will be much harder to continue spiraling into a debt quagmire. The time to seek out professional advice on bankruptcy is as early as possible. Your financial situation will get complex very quickly, so wise counsel is more valuable the earlier you get it.

Although you can find many bankruptcy attorneys listed in your local Yellow Pages or online, it?s best if you can find one through the personal recommendation of a friend, family member or acquaintance. There are many companies who take advantage of financial desperation; that is why it is important that you get someone that is trustworthy.

No matter how bad things are when you are filing for bankruptcy, be honest. It would be a very big mistake to be dishonest in regard to your assets and debts. This activity is illegal. If you lie, there is a chance that you will land in prison.

Don?t file for bankruptcy unless it?s absolutely necessary. Some people have great luck with handling debt with debt consolidation, which means taking out only one loan to pay off many loans. There is not easy process associated with personal bankruptcy. It will also harm your ability to secure credit in years to come. This is why you must make sure bankruptcy is your last resort.

Don?t avoid telling your lawyer specific details with your case. Chances are that you may have forgotten to tell them about certain specifics that may be important to your filing. It?s your financial future that is in his hands; don?t hesitate to speak up.

If you plan correctly, you can position yourself well. If you can give yourself more time, do it. Just continue to do the right thing and stay on the path that isn?t towards bankruptcy. Now is the time to begin making plans for the future.

My proopsal for the Florida State Legislature.

I am not a lawyer or a legislator, but here is my idea:

As the events in Newtown this past week and the Secret Service Safe School Initiative report has proven since 2002, the concept of a Gun Free School zone to prevent the mass shootings of our kids has proven to be a colossal failure.

The State of Florida must end once and for all a practice that may invite criminals and mentally disturbed people to freely walk into our schools and commit unspeakable crimes. In order to do so, we need to allow teachers, other school personnel and parents the ability to defend the children against such attacks. And for that we need to allow them to use the most effective tools to stop any attack: Firearms.

In these tough economic times, we cannot impose taxes on the citizens of the State to provide for police protection for every school or pay for armed security. However the State of Florida is fortunate to have amongst its citizens close to one million individuals that have been proven themselves to be amongst the best law-abiding citizens in the country: Concealed Weapons Permit carriers.

Concealed Weapons Permit carriers have a record unmatched by any other group or even the common citizen: Only 0.3% of licenses have been removed because the person had committed a felony. These are people who have been through firearms safety training, background checks, photographed and fingerprinted to carry a personal sidearm.

Proposal:
-To remove the prohibition of carrying a weapon on any school grounds in the State to those who have a valid Florida Concealed Weapons Permit.
-To order local school boards that they are not allowed to ask a teacher or school personnel if they have Concealed Weapons Permit during class or such Concealed Weapons Permit cannot be used to terminate employment or serve as base for refusal to hire a teacher or any other school personnel.
- Non compliance with the above will result in a $10,000 penalty to the individual who terminates or refuses employment. Payment of the fine will not come out of any local, state or federal taxpayer-funded source.

?????????

To that we can add lawsuit protection for the school board against the very improbable and very few misdeeds a CWP holder may do.

Go ahead and add your 2 cents.

Heron: Part 6 | My Brain Cancer Diary

For the sake of a proper accomplishment, I?d planned to resume my voyage at Christmas Cove. My wife and I had driven as far as Damariscotta when she found a tourist map that offered otherwise. It was a glossy, cloying sort of map, high on ads and low on detail, but it did show what appeared to be a public launch at Pemaquid Harbor.

It?s across Johns Bay from South Bristol, a few miles east but also a few miles north. Instead of crossing Johns Bay I would follow the shore three miles and, in either case, go around Pemaquid Point. Six of one, as they say. ()

I found it to be a worthy trade. It was a spacious and barren sandlot, unhindered by self-important fuss. I carried my kayak down the gravel launch into the glassy shallows and packed it there. Woolly clouds shrouded the sky.

With hatches tight and spray skirt secured, I was moments from pushing off when I noticed that my footbraces were out of place. With adjustments for contact points in the feet, knees and hips, one doesn?t sit in a kayak so much as wear it. A good fit puts the full power of a stroke into the paddle.

I?d kayaked in the surf at Crescent Beach a day or two before. Swells from a southern storm were pushing up the coast. I practiced some rolls and surf landings and flipped over a few times in the shore break, which was brown with a churn of fine sand. The footbraces had both been knocked out of their appointed notches and pushed down the adjustment track, and were now jammed tight with tiny grains.

They wouldn?t budge. I had to take out the thru-hull bolts and remove and submerse both units to work the sand out. I didn?t shove off till 2:30.

Outside the harbor, Johns Bay sloshed with small waves. Miles ahead, Pemaquid Point appeared to spray gaily. But up close it was hammer-and-anvil. Swells in the gulf were six feet tall and broke on the shoals with a terrible power. I paddled through a blanket of sea foam nearly a foot thick that gathered off the western side, and then straight out past the point another 100 yards, a safe distance, before turning east.

I was awed by the crashing waves, by the crushing blows of tons of water collapsing on jagged rock. It reminded me of Thunder Hole on the shore of Mount Desert Island, a tourist-preferred sheer-walled pocket of booming surf, and of why, if you fall in, you should swim away from shore. It has claimed more than a few lives.

The sun came out.

Back on the sea road now, it was time to line up a target. Nine miles away, () across the mouth of Muscongus Bay, a line of islands broke from the main and spread south toward the solitary hump of Monhegan. Allen Island, outermost of the pack, was just north of east of my position. If I could step back along the chain I would find Thompson Island and the way to Port Clyde.

It was all a hazy blur at the moment. Riding up and down the swells, I would lose sight of it often. A couple of seabird roosts, Western Egg Rock and Eastern Egg Rock, should be visible, I thought, since they?re miles closer. But they were hidden by the swells or maybe just faded into the background. For an hour or so the scene seemed little changed.

A fishing boat came chugging from the south. It was about 150 yards off but coming my way. It?s exactly the kind of situation that leads to a collision. Except for a second or two on the crest of a wave, I would be almost invisible. I grabbed a paddle blade and lifted the rest of the paddle straight up over my head, and rocked it back and forth. He (or she) changed course.

Far to the northeast I saw a burst of white on the surface of the water, which faded into blue and then burst again. It must be a sunken ledge, I thought. Landing can be hard enough in tall seas: it misbehaves to froth and snarl where there?s no land to be seen. ?Boomers?, they?re called. You might be going along minding your own business, no warning, and BOOM a high wave (more to the point, ?a low trough?) comes out of nowhere and blows up in a boil of foam.

Gradually the egg rocks dropped out of the background and stood on their own. The lighthouse tower on Franklin Island appeared in a coat of evening gleam. I faded north a few degrees and headed that way. It took another hour or more to reach it, while the misty horizon thickened and darkened and the Georges Islands broke apart.

I sprinted for the notch between Thompson and Barter and covered two miles in about 25 minutes. By the time I got a look at the Marshall Point light at Port Clyde, the sun was down. But the seas had settled and I didn?t feel a wind. I paddled the last few miles at a relaxed pace. When I pulled up to a wharf in what seemed to be the ?busiest? part of town, relatively speaking, the sky was full black.

A couple of young waitresses were serving diners on the wharf, under a tall tent structure opened to the night air.

?Excuse me,? I shouted up. ?Is there a public landing near here??

Being hailed from the darkness far below did not seem to unnerve them at all. They directed me to the other side of the wharf. I landed there, unpacked the kayak and carried, separately, the kayak and the gear up the long concrete ramp to the high tide line.

It was, as far as I can remember, my first look at Port Clyde. It?s off the beaten path, so to speak, 10 or 12 miles from Route 1 at Thomaston. It seemed sleepy at that moment, about 7:30 on a Thursday night in early September. Again I was reminded of the idea that every little village has its own flavor.

So Port Clyde kept a ?Popham Beach? tempo in the evening, it seemed. Across the street, a sign outside a big old white building (a barn, maybe) advertised ?taco night?. I walked in. The decor was rough, but the grey-haired diners brought an air of earnest seriousness to the place, the worldly bearing, perhaps, of a vigorous retirement from New York or Washington.

The woman next to me at the bar, similarly advanced in age, rambled more colorfully. The bartender nodded on cue but the woman seemed to be speaking mostly to herself, about being an unwelcome Ron Paul delegate in Tampa, and her inevitable brushes with the great painting Wyeths who long summered nearby.

The story of the taco bar came out in bits and pieces. The bartender?s retired Navy, fifty-something, upright, trim and a bit unnerving for a guy handing out beer. I gathered this was not a living. His wife cooks (quite well, it must be said) and their daughter helps.

I had a Corona and two tacos. After 8:00, the tables began to clear. By 8:30 the place was closed and I was out on the street again.

On advice of the bartender, I slept in the grass at a school playground up the hill. It turns out that while the evenings in Port Clyde are quiet, the wee hours of the morning are not. First a skunk appeared. Then a fleet of pick-up trucks came roaring down the hill: time to start fishing, Popham Beach needs lobsters.

Democratic senators want ban on assault weapons

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Democratic lawmakers and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday that military-style assault weapons should be banned and that a national commission should be established to examine mass shootings in the United States.

The proposals were among the first to come from Congress in the wake of Friday's school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Gun rights activists remained largely quiet on the issue, all but one declining to appear on the Sunday talk shows. Meanwhile, Democrats vowed action and said it was time to hear from voters ? not gun lobbyists ? on how to prevent the next shooting.

The time for "saying that we can't talk about the policy implications of tragedies like this is over," said Rep. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., who won a Senate seat in the November elections.

President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats haven't pushed for new gun controls since rising to power in the 2008 national elections. Outspoken advocates for stricter laws, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, say that's because of the powerful sway of the National Rifle Association.

But advocates also say the latest shooting is a tipping point that could change the dynamic of the debate dramatically. Feinstein, D-Calif., said she will propose legislation next year that would ban big clips, drums and strips of more than 10 bullets.

"It can be done," she said Sunday of reviving the 10-year ban that expired in 2004.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Obama could use executive powers to enforce existing gun laws, as well as throw his weight behind legislation like Feinstein's.

"It's time for the president, I think, to stand up and lead and tell this country what we should do ? not go to Congress and say, 'What do you guys want to do?'" Bloomberg said.

Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut who is retiring, supports such a ban but said there should also be a national commission to scrutinize gun laws and loopholes, as well as the nation's mental health system and the role that violent video games and movies might play in shootings. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois said he would support such a panel, adding that it was time for a "national discussion" that included school safety.

"This conversation has been dominated in Washington by ? you know and I know ? gun lobbies that have an agenda" Durbin said. "We need people, just ordinary Americans, to come together, and speak out, and to sit down and calmly reflect on how far we go."

Congress has frequently turned to independent bipartisan commissions to try to solve the nation's worst problems, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Iraq war and the failing economy. But ultimately, lawmakers are often reluctant to act on the recommendations of outsiders, especially if they think it will cost them support in their home states.

Still, Lieberman defended the idea of a national commission as the only way to ensure that the "heartbreak and anger" of the Connecticut shooting doesn't dissipate over time and that other factors beyond gun control are considered.

"We've got to continue to hear the screams of these children and see their blood until we do something to try to prevent this from happening again," he said.

Gun rights advocates appeared reluctant to make their case against tougher gun laws while Connecticut families and the nation were still in the earliest stages of grieving. David Gregory, the host of "Meet the Press," said NBC invited all 31 "pro-gun" senators to appear on Sunday's show, and all 31 declined. All eight Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee were unavailable or unwilling to appear on CBS' "Face the Nation," host Bob Schieffer said.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was the sole representative of gun rights' activists on the various Sunday talk shows. In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Gohmert defended the sale of assault weapons and said that the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who authorities say died trying to overtake the shooter, should herself have been armed.

"I wish to God she had had an M-4 in her office, locked up so when she heard gunfire, she pulls it out and she didn't have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands. But she takes him (the shooter) out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids," Gohmert said.

Gohmert also argued that violence is lower in cities with lax gun laws, and higher in cities with stricter laws.

"The facts are that every time guns have been allowed ?conceal-carry (gun laws) have been allowed ? the crime rate has gone down," Gohmert said.

Gun control advocates say that isn't true. A study by the California-based Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence determined that seven of the 10 states with the strongest gun laws ? including Connecticut, Massachusetts and California ? are also among the 10 states with the lowest gun death rates.

"If you look at the states with the strongest gun laws in the country, they have some of the lowest gun death rates, and some of the states with the weakest gun laws have some of the highest gun death rates," said Brian Malte of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

Murphy spoke on ABC's "This Week." Lieberman, Durbin and Gohmert spoke on "Fox News Sunday." Bloomberg and Feinstein spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press."

How Search Engines Filter Out Spam-Filled Websites | Traffic Building

How Search Engines Improve Their Web Ranking Schemes

Some believe that if you?re doing something on your website that could get you penalized by search engine companies, you probably should not be doing it. If this is true then why are there still many activities on the Internet that can be considered illegal, malicious and, yes, spammy??

There are different reasons why people engage in activities that are considered illegal like black hat SEO. But the three most common reasons that serve as their motivation are the following: One, there are a few webmasters who believe they can deceive search engines. Two, there are webmasters who think search engines don?t really pay attention to these activities. Three, the penalties imposed by search engines differ and the punishment is usually not severe.?

But of course search engine companies have to stay on guard to discourage these activities. They do this by relentlessly finding ways to improve and change their algorithms, sometimes without announcing it. The latest examples of these algorithm updates are the Google Panda and Penguin. The two do sound harmless, but in truth they are ruthless in penalizing websites that are caught violating good and proper SEO procedures.?

These recent updates in Google?s algorithms are quite unexpected, but for a trusted and widely used search engine it?s only natural for Google to guard its web ranking schemes. This is one of the key guarantees Google could give to any business in Singapore that wants to submit a website to this search engine company. Any Singapore business owner aiming for online visibility should therefore hire SEO companies in Singapore that are aware of Google?s webmaster guidelines.?

But what if your website contains spam elements without being aware of it? It does happen, and in fact some webmasters commit it not only once but twice due to over experimenting. This can also happen when some content management system generates hidden text sections. Although these don?t intentionally mislead web surfers, search engines might take the hidden texts as a spamming technique. ?

It?s important thereby that the SEO SG company you entrust with your website is expert and updated with search engine algorithms. After all, the chief requirements for search engines will certainly change over time.
