A British man has completed his complex journey in order to raise money for cancer patients. Matt Wallace, 30, gave up his job and left home to raise funds. He travelled six months from John O'Groats to Lands End via Belfast.
Wallace said that many people have travelled from John O'Groats to Lands End, but no one has covered all the 16 cancer research centers that come in the way. He said that it was his birthday when he decided to take this unusual journey to raise funds for research centers.
He was able to raise ?20,332.09 and is quite pleased with the amount. He further affirmed that he started the journey in September last year with a bag and pop-up tent. Wallace said that his journey was not at all easy and he has walked 1,500 miles in six months and has recorded everything in his video camera.
In addition, a new research has been taken out in which it has been unveiled that 40% of the people who think that they might be having cancer do not visit doctors as they think that their worst fears might come true. This delay is increasing the number of people suffering from cancer.
The Cancer Research UK has said that one should immediately contact his respective GPs to get their cancer symptoms checked as then the people can get timely treatment. However, people are found to be not following the advice.
It has also been seen that the people are not able to detect cancer symptoms. It is possible that the people are not able to relate these symptoms with cancer. Some of these symptoms are pain, coughing and problem in bowel.
"That is why it is so important for people to be aware of things that might be early signs of cancer. Of course we are all frightened of hearing that we may have cancer", said Professor Peter Johnson, who is the Cancer Research UK's chief clinician.
