Ernst and Young hosts seminar on Business Continuity ...

More than 30 executives representing some of the largest governmental, public sector, financial and corporate organizations in the Sultanate participated in the half-day-long program, which was held at InterContinental Muscat.

In attendance were Chief Information Officers, Internal Audit Heads, Risk officers and other senior management representatives charged with developing / implementing business continuity management systems - to prepare themselves in the event of disasters or other contingencies.

Senior officials from the Information Technology Authority, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Oil & Gas, Muscat Municipality, Royal Oman Police, State Audit and Financial Institution, Oman LNG, Petroleum Development Oman, Ahli Bank, Bank Sohar, Oman Arab Bank, Oman International Bank, Galfar and Risk Management Services LLC, amongst others also took part.

"It's imperative that organizations be prepared by implementing effective BCM methodologies to overcome potential threats - natural or manmade - with minimum disruption to their business environments. Adverse weather events, such as cyclones are examples of threats that can potentially impact the business environment in Oman. In organising this seminar, our goal was to provide participants with a better understanding of the preventative measures and tools necessary to implement effect Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery Management processes in their organisations," said Mohamed Nayaz, Director, Advisory Services, Ernst & Young Muscat.

A panel of experts spoke on the methodologies and challenges of implementing successful Business Continuity Management systems. There were presentations by Ernst & Young specialists on key areas of BCM implementation. Mohammed Hassan Al Lawati, a BCM specialist at Ernst &Young Muscat, outlined the typical approach to be followed by organizations for implementing BCM Mohammed shared his experience in BCM implementation with various organizations in the region. Yousaf Bari, Ernst & Young Muscat provided an overview of IT Disaster Recovery Strategies and illustrated the possible options for recovery in the Sultanate. Venugopal Hari, Senior Officer - Systems, Projects & Organisational Development Department, Central Bank of Oman, also shared his experiences in the implementation of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) strategies.

Ernst & Young has been playing a leading role in helping organisations in the Sultanate to implement Business Continuity Management programs to ensure continuity of critical business operations during a crisis or disaster.
